Is Cambodia safe ?

Cambodia is a relatively safe destination and a beautifully preserved country for visitors, including women travelling alone. In fact, given the Cambodia’s recent history, many tourists, particularly American, are pleasantly surprised at the warm reception that foreign travellers receive from the local Cambodian while traveling through the land. That said, petty crime is on the rise – though it’s still relatively small–scale and shouldn’t be a problem if you take common–sense precautions, we not going warn you and make this a big thing, we just share some experiences that we’ve seen. Generally, the hassles you’ll encounter will be the milder sort of coping with pushy street vendors and over–enthusiastic touts and beggars.

Cambodia for Women travellers

Cambodia is generally a safe country for women to travel around alone. Most Khmer (Local Cambodian) will simply be curious as to why you are on your own and the chances of encountering any threatening behavior are extremely rare. That said, it pays to take the normal precautions, especially late at night when there are few people on the streets and you should avoid taking a cyclo by yourself; use a taxi instead – that are generally considered as the safest method of transportation in Cambodia.

Most Cambodian women dress modestly while you also see a big contrast between the local costumes and the modern one, keeping simple but elegant, unless their profession requires them to show off their assets. It helps to dress modestly too and to avoid wearing skimpy shorts and vests, which are considered by some men an invitation to the naughty jobs. Topless sunbathing, even beside a hotel pool, is a complete nah.
